OVERCOMING ARCHITECTURE?

The results of March Architecture Syndicate’s poll have been  published recently. It shows that more than 33% of architects in Spain are unemployed, what means the highest rate of unemployment in the profession in the last decades. As a consequence, most of architects consider working abroad as the only opportunity to survive the crisis. And I wonder, is this so?

It’s a fact that the economical environment is not appropriated for the hiring of new projects, either buildings or land developments, and unfortunately, we are too many seekers in the job market applying for only a few positions. It’s a matter of concern for us all that qualified and experienced professionals can’t find a job in our own country in such a related area to the economical and social progress, and what is worst, even if you get it, probably you can’t afford the rent or the bills with your salary.

But taking on account our qualification, experience and background…shouldn’t be able to overcome the rates and create a new reality? I believe we can.

I’ve worked for more than eight years in real estate and construction companies as an architect and project director, and what I have been doing the whole time is this:

-.deliver quality projects within prescribed budget and scheduled objectives.
-.manage teams to achieve the goals.
-.negotiate to get the resources I needed.
-.enhance the project with a global vision.

All these skills are valuable to many areas in any kind of company. Probably we won’t develop many housing projects in these years if we remain in Spain, but we can contribute with our abilities to build the future of the companies that keep on fighting for a position in the current market. And not only in the construction area; I believe we are a good option for many other business.

As architects, we have a technical profile but overall a creative and innovating spirit. We create solutions and have everything on mind during the process. We have our own brand, we work oriented to customer’s satisfaction, and we definitely apply challenge to achieve the best value. Can Spain afford the lack of this talent? I do say NO.
